Behavior Events Acquisition and Analysis System

Category: Other Technologies Reference Number:

Description

The Behavior Events Acquisition and Analysis System (BEAST) is a data acquisition and analysis system that will allow laboratory and field researchers to record behavior events using any PC-compatible computer. BEAST replaces pen and paper techniques, manually-recorded checksheets and mechanical chart recorders. BEAST permits the researcher to devote attention to observing events rather than the recording process.

Applications

  • Animal Behaviorists
  • Ethologists
  • Child Psychologists
  • Researchers involved in time and motion studies
  • Researchers studying behavior event recording

Main Advantages

BEAST includes sophisticated statistical routines which allow the researcher to create data summaries of frequency and duration statistics for each event or class of events, and perform more sophisticated data analyses in the field. Data can also be exported to spreadsheets, statistics packages, or graphics programs. BEAST improves the quality and quantity of observational data, improves the accuracy of the statistical analyses, and saves researchers hours of data processing time.
